Information on two-component epoxy adhesives (EP)
A two-component epoxy adhesive is an epoxy resin-based adhesive consisting of two components. It comprises a resin and a hardener, which must be mixed in the correct ratio before application. After mixing, the adhesive cures through a chemical reaction and forms a very strong, load-bearing bond.
Two-component epoxy adhesive is suitable for strong, permanent, and highly load-bearing bonds. It is commonly used in metal construction, mechanical engineering, model making, vehicle manufacturing, boat building, electrical applications, skilled trades, construction, and repair work.
Depending on the product, materials such as metals, aluminium, steel, stainless steel, wood, ceramic, glass, stone, concrete, thermosetting plastics, GRP, CFRP, rigid plastics, and many composite materials can be bonded. Adhesion to plastics such as PE, PP, PTFE, or silicone is generally difficult and should be tested in advance.
Yes, two-component epoxy adhesives often achieve very high strength. They are particularly suitable for applications requiring a strong, dimensionally stable, and permanent bond.
“2K” means “two-component.” The adhesive consists of two separate components: resin and hardener. The chemical curing process begins only when the two components are mixed.
Yes, many two-component epoxy adhesives are available in convenient dual cartridges. They are applied using a suitable dispensing gun and static mixing nozzle, which automatically mix the resin and hardener in the correct ratio.
