Information on double-sided adhesive tapes
Technical double-sided adhesive tapes are coated with adhesive on both sides. They are used to bond two materials either permanently or temporarily without the need for screws, rivets, or other visible fasteners.
Double-sided adhesive tapes are suitable for mounting, fixing, bonding, and laminating a wide variety of materials. Typical applications include attaching signs, trims, profiles, displays, films, decorative elements, seals, or components in industry, skilled trades, advertising, and assembly.
Depending on the product, double-sided adhesive tapes adhere to materials such as metal, plastic, glass, wood, rubber, paper, cardboard, foam, textiles, or painted surfaces. For reliable adhesion, the bonding surfaces should be clean, dry, and free from dust and grease.
Many technical double-sided adhesive tapes are designed for permanent and durable bonds. However, their load-bearing capacity depends on the type of tape, the surface, application pressure, temperature, moisture, and subsequent stress. For high loads, a suitably strong mounting or high-performance adhesive tape should be selected.
The surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned and dried before bonding. The tape is applied to one surface and pressed down firmly before the release liner is removed. The second material is then positioned accurately and also pressed down firmly. Depending on the product, the tape may take some time to reach its full adhesive strength.
Important factors include the surface, required adhesive strength, load, duration of use, and the necessary resistance to temperature, moisture, UV radiation, and chemicals. It should also be considered whether the tape needs to be permanent, removable, particularly thin, or capable of bridging gaps.
