Information about film adhesives
A film adhesive is a special adhesive developed for bonding films and film-like materials. It enables thin, flexible, or smooth materials to be permanently bonded to one another or to other substrates.
Film adhesives are commonly used for plastic films, decorative films, protective films, PVC films, tarpaulins, membranes, vapour barriers, laminates, packaging films, and technical films. Depending on the product, they are suitable for use in trade applications, industry, construction, advertising, furniture manufacturing, or repairs.
Depending on the adhesive, materials such as PVC, PU, PE, PP, PET, foam films, textile films, fabric tarpaulins, coated fabrics, wood, metal, glass, concrete, plasterboard, and other plastics can be bonded. The exact material compatibility should always be checked in the product description.
Yes. Films made of PE, PP, PTFE, or siliconised materials are often particularly difficult to bond because they have very low surface energy. These materials usually require special adhesives, primers, or surface pre-treatment.
Many film adhesives are suitable for PVC films, including flexible PVC, rigid PVC, tarpaulins, and pond liners. It is important that the adhesive is specifically recommended for the relevant type of PVC, as plasticisers can affect the adhesive bond.
PE and PP films are difficult to bond permanently using many standard adhesives. Special film adhesives suitable for low-surface-energy plastics should therefore be used. A test bond is particularly recommended.
