Information on high-temperature adhesive tapes
High-temperature adhesive tapes are technical adhesive tapes specifically developed for applications involving elevated temperatures. They are used when conventional adhesive tapes could lose their adhesive strength, shrink, deform, or leave residue due to heat.
High-temperature adhesive tapes are commonly used for covering, masking, insulating, fixing, or protecting components during heat-intensive processes. Typical applications include painting, powder coating, soldering processes, electronics manufacturing, oven processes, metalworking, and industrial assembly work.
Depending on the design, high-temperature adhesive tapes adhere to materials such as metal, glass, plastic, ceramic, painted surfaces, or printed circuit boards. For reliable adhesion, the surfaces should be clean, dry, and free from dust and grease.
The temperature resistance depends greatly on the specific adhesive tape, backing material, and adhesive system. Many high-temperature adhesive tapes are designed for short-term or continuous exposure within defined temperature ranges. The technical specifications of the respective product should therefore always be observed.
Many high-temperature adhesive tapes are designed to be removed cleanly and with as little residue as possible after use. The result depends on the surface, temperature, duration of use, and type of adhesive. On sensitive surfaces, a test should be carried out beforehand on an inconspicuous area.
Important factors include the maximum temperature exposure, the duration of heat exposure, the surface, the required adhesive strength, and the requirements regarding residue-free removal, chemical resistance, and electrical insulation. Clean edge definition is also essential for precise masking work.
