Information on protective adhesive tapes
Technical protective adhesive tapes are specially designed tapes that protect surfaces from scratches, dirt, moisture, abrasion, or mechanical stress. They are commonly used during transport, storage, assembly, processing, or renovation.
Protective adhesive tapes are suitable for the temporary or permanent protection of sensitive surfaces. Typical applications include covering metal, glass, plastic, painted, wooden, or stainless-steel surfaces, as well as protecting components, profiles, edges, displays, machine parts, or painted surfaces.
Depending on the product, protective adhesive tapes adhere to smooth or lightly textured surfaces such as metal, glass, plastic, aluminium, stainless steel, wood, ceramic, or painted surfaces. For reliable adhesion, the surfaces should be clean, dry, and free from dust and grease.
Many protective adhesive tapes are designed for clean removal with as little residue as possible. However, removability depends on the surface, adhesive strength, duration of use, temperature, and UV exposure. On sensitive surfaces, the tape should be tested beforehand on an inconspicuous area.
Some protective adhesive tapes are resistant to UV radiation, moisture, and weathering and can therefore also be used outdoors. For prolonged outdoor use, a protective adhesive tape specifically designed for this purpose should be selected to maintain reliable adhesion and low-residue removal.
Important factors include the surface to be protected, the required level of protection, the duration of use, adhesive strength, and the necessary resistance to UV radiation, temperature, moisture, and abrasion. It should also be determined whether the tape is intended to remain on the surface temporarily or permanently.
