Information on repair tapes

Technical repair tapes are specialist adhesive tapes designed for quick and reliable repairs, sealing, and fixing applications. They are used to stabilise, protect, or seal damaged areas either temporarily or permanently.

Repair tapes are suitable for sealing, reinforcing, fixing, joining, and protecting a wide variety of materials. Typical applications include repairs to hoses, tarpaulins, films, pipes, housings, cables, packaging, vehicle parts, or components used indoors and outdoors.

Depending on the product, repair tapes adhere to materials such as metal, plastic, glass, rubber, wood, ceramic, films, tarpaulins, or painted surfaces. For reliable adhesion, the surfaces should be clean, dry, and free from dust and grease.

Many technical repair tapes are resistant to water, UV radiation, or weathering and are therefore also suitable for demanding outdoor applications. However, the exact level of resistance depends on the type of tape, backing material, and adhesive system.

The damaged area should be thoroughly cleaned and dried before application. The tape should be cut to the required size, applied without tension, and pressed down firmly. For optimum adhesion, it should be applied as smoothly as possible, without creases, and with sufficient overlap.

Important factors include the surface, the type of damage, the required adhesive strength, and the necessary resistance to water, UV radiation, temperature, and weathering. A suitable specialist repair tape should be selected for flexible materials, rough surfaces, or applications subject to heavy stress.
