Information on Technical Sprays – Long-Term Corrosion Protection
Long-term corrosion protection refers to technical sprays that protect metal surfaces against rust, oxidation, and moisture over an extended period. Depending on the product, they form a durable protective film that preserves the surface and shields it from corrosive influences.
Long-term corrosion protection sprays are used for the lasting preservation and protection of metal parts. Typical applications include machine components, tools, spare parts, screws, stored parts, vehicle components, moulds, structural steel parts, or metal surfaces that are stored, transported, or used outdoors.
The duration of protection depends on the specific product, coating thickness, substrate, and environmental conditions. In protected indoor areas, the protection may last considerably longer than under heavy exposure to weather, moisture, salt, or mechanical stress outdoors.
Long-term corrosion protection is primarily used on metal surfaces such as steel, iron, galvanised metal, aluminium, or other metals. Before application, adjacent materials such as plastics, rubber, painted surfaces, or seals should be checked for compatibility.
The surface should be clean, dry, and free from loose rust, grease, oil, or dirt. The spray should be applied evenly from a suitable distance until a continuous protective film is formed. Depending on the product, sufficient flash-off or drying time may be required before the component is processed further, stored, or exposed to stress.
Important factors include the area of application, desired duration of protection, environmental conditions, material compatibility, and exposure to moisture, salt, chemicals, or temperature. It should also be determined whether the protective film needs to be transparent, wax-like, oil-based, paintable, or removable.
