Information on Technical Sprays – Multi-Purpose Oils
Technical multi-purpose oils are versatile sprays that combine several functions in a single product. Depending on the formulation, they can lubricate, clean, maintain, protect, displace moisture, and loosen seized parts.
Multi-purpose oils are used in workshops, industry, trades, households, automotive engineering, and maintenance. Typical applications include hinges, locks, threads, screws, tools, metal parts, moving components, contacts, and lightly corroded connections.
Multi-purpose oils are suitable for a wide range of applications and many quick maintenance and care tasks. They reduce friction, loosen light contamination, displace moisture, and can protect metal surfaces against corrosion. This makes them particularly practical for regular maintenance and repairs.
Many multi-purpose oils can loosen seized or lightly rusted parts and make disassembly easier. For heavily corroded connections, however, a specialised rust penetrant may be the better choice, as it is specifically designed to penetrate layers of rust.
Multi-purpose oils are mainly used on metal. Depending on the product, they may also be compatible with certain plastics, rubber, or painted surfaces. For sensitive materials, the manufacturer’s instructions should be followed and the product should first be tested on an inconspicuous area.
The oil should be applied sparingly and precisely to the required area. Excess material can be removed with a cloth to prevent contamination. Good ventilation, sufficient distance from ignition sources, and compliance with all safety and application instructions are essential.
